On October 8, 1995 Douglas Chevrier participated in the rescue of six victims from a burning car outside the village of Tee Lake, near Temiscaming, Quebec. After the car he was following went out of control and hit a boulder, Mr. Chevrier rushed to the scene and found the vehicle overturned in a ditch with his friends and sister trapped inside. With the assistance of a friend, he forced open the passenger door and squeezed into the wreckage. Despite the rapidly spreading fire, he was able to pull six people out, one at a time, and hand them to others who dragged them a safe distance away. Unable to dislodge the last victim trapped in the back seat, Mr. Chevrier exited the car and attempted to flip it over with another man. Regrettably, flames completely engulfed the vehicle and the last occupant could not be saved.
