At about midnight on March 3, 1990, Mr. Feltham rescued a woman from the icy waters of Traverse Pond near Hare Bay, Newfoundland. He and three others were returning home by snowmobile when both vehicles broke through the ice. Mr. Feltham, a non-swimmer, helped his wife onto the ice with the assistance of one of the travellers who had already climbed out. He then pulled himself to safety. Hearing the distraught screams of the fourth snowmobiler, Mr. Feltham immediately jumped in the water, grabbed the terrified woman and pushed her onto the ice. All four made it safely back to shore.
