On July 6, 1991, thirteen-year-old Christopher Lemieux rescued a boy from the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Ontario. While cycling with friends, he noticed that one of his companions had not arrived at a designated meeting place. Christopher retraced his steps, realized that his friend had fallen into the canal and immediately jumped in after him. Christopher was able to grab his friend, who was older and heavier, and keep the boy's head above water. With some difficulty, he swam half-way to the embankment and was assisted by two passers-by.
