On July 22, 1989, police Csts. Clements and MacFarlane rescued a woman from a house fire in Moncton, New Brunswick. Unable to rouse the occupants from outside, or enter by the front door because of the intensity of the fire, the constables proceeded to the back of the house. They crawled inside, using a lawn chair to deflect falling debris. Cst. Clements dragged one of the victims onto the veranda, then both officers attempted to re-enter the house but were forced back and were unable to save the second victim.
