On November 15, 1991, Mrs. Browning saved a woman from a house fire in Belleville, Ontario. As she was leaving for work, Mrs. Browning saw her neighbour's residence aflame. After telling her husband to call the fire department, she ran to the house and used a key hidden nearby to open the front door. She went inside the smoke-filled house but was forced to retreat. She re-entered on her hands and knees, crawling around until she located the unconscious woman. With some difficulty, Mrs. Browning picked her up and carried her outside to await the ambulance.
