On May 9, 1991, Mr. Mackenzie saved a man from drowning in Woods Lake at Winfield, British Columbia. Noticing a sinking canoe, Mr. Mackenzie went to the nearest house and told the resident to call for help. He then returned to see a man floundering in the middle of the lake. Mr. Mackenzie quickly removed his outer clothing and jumped into the cold water. He swam out to the semi- conscious victim, grabbed him by his clothes, and towed him back through the waves to the shore.
