On July 23, 1992, outside a house near La Corey, Alberta, fifteen-year-old Shane Morton rescued a two-year-old boy from a black bear. The bear, which had been roaming around but was presumed gone, entered the yard and approached the two-year-old. Shane immediately ran over to within an arm's length of the bear and quickly scooped up the child. He carried him to safety, then went to warn other youngsters in the nearby field.
