On January 26, 1992, Mr. Scully saved a woman and her young son from drowning in Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia. Seated at a water-front restaurant, Mr. Scully was told that a woman had fallen into the harbour. He found her near the docks, climbed down a nearby mooring line, and tried to reach her. Unsuccessful, he held onto the line and, although a non-swimmer, jumped into the deep, frigid water. As he helped the woman to safety with the aid of a friend, a small boy surfaced nearby. Mr. Scully helped the child grab onto of a life preserver and others pulled him out. Cold and exhausted from the ordeal, Mr. Scully was assisted out of the water.
