On June 13, 1992, Mr. Murphy rescued a young girl from a burning apartment building in Toronto, Ontario. Seeing smoke coming from an apartment building and learning that a woman was inside, Mr. Murphy immediately entered to search for her. Forced to exit twice before discovering she was safe outside, he turned his attention to a family at a third floor window. He climbed up a drain pipe, broke the window and reached in to take a young girl on his shoulders and down to safety. The rest of the family was rescued by firefighters.
