On September 20, 1992, at West Hawk Lake, Manitoba, five-year-old Julius Rosenberg rescued his younger sister from a black bear. Dressed in their swimsuits and lifejackets, the children were eating in front of their cottage when a black bear approached. As the animal came closer, both children jumped into the lake. The bear followed them and bit into the little girl's lifejacket, but Julius was able to pull his sister from the animal's grip. The children swam to shore where they found the bear blocking their path. Julius confronted it with angry noises, causing it to back off, and allowing the children to reach the safety of the cottage.
