On June 10, 1992, the Brogan brothers subdued an armed robber at their place of business in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia. Hearing the receptionist scream, Richard Brogan came out of his office to find a man brandishing a rifle and demanding money. Thomas then entered the reception area and, following the gunman's orders, helped his brother fill a duffle bag with money from the office safe. When the robber lowered his rifle to look into the bag, Thomas grabbed him and pushed him up against a wall. A struggle involving the three men ensued, during which Richard was able to disarm the robber. The Brogans restrained the agitated man until the police arrived.
