Medal of Bravery
Off-duty firefighters Hales and Hill saved a young boy from drowning in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on July 16, 1993. While golfing, the two men noticed a golf cart being driven across a flooded weir over the Moose Jaw River. The cart was swept off the weir and a young boy became caught in a whirlpool. Both men jumped into the fast-flowing waters and Mr. Hales pulled the boy to the surface. Unable to overcome the current, they were carried downstream to calmer waters and reached the far shore, where they were helped out by Mr. Hill, who had already reached the river bank.
