On April 15, 1993, at Longueuil Regional Park in Quebec, Danny Gagné saved a young boy from drowning. Danny and a friend were cycling in the park and stopped near one of three small lakes. They had noticed that a young boy was walking on the ice, but they hadn't paid much attention to him. Suddenly, they heard screams from the boy, who had fallen through the ice. Danny rushed onto the frozen surface to reach out to the boy and, he too, found himself in the water. The boy clung to Danny who, himself, was unable to touch the bottom of the lake. Despite being hampered by pieces of thin ice, Danny nonetheless succeeded in clutching the solid ice and helping the child out of the water before following him to safety.
