Mr. Ho rescued a man from drowning in the Fraser River on November 22, 1993, in Vancouver, British Columbia. While jogging, Mr. Ho heard calls for help and saw a man being carried downstream by the current. He quickly entered the cold, murky water and, although not a strong swimmer, managed to reach the victim. The man began struggling with his rescuer, but Mr. Ho was able to calm him and towed him some seventy-five metres back to shore, where he administered first aid.
