In the early hours of February 21, 1994, Mr. Dowse lost his life trying to save his son from a house fire in Niverville, Manitoba. Awakened by the sound of the smoke detector, Mr. Dowse told his wife and two older sons to leave the house. Although the house was ablaze, he stayed to look for his youngest son. Tragically, the two were overcome by smoke and both perished.
