Daniel Joseph McKinney, M.B.
Gatineau, Quebec
On March 15, 2016, Daniel McKinney saved the life of a teenage victim of armed sexual assault near Brewery Creek in Gatineau, Quebec. While heading home, Mr. McKinney was alerted by the presence of a man lying on top of a young woman who was bleeding and calling for help in a wooded area. He then rushed to the attacker, who was holding a knife, and pinned him to the ground by holding his wrists to allow the victim to escape. Worried that he would lose control of the situation, he got up and walked a few steps, still holding the man and calling for help. The attacker tried to escape after hitting Mr. McKinney in the face, but Mr. McKinney managed to control the man until police arrived.
