Blazon

On a plate a saltire Azure, overall a thistle proper, the whole encircled by an annulus Azure edged and inscribed with the Motto and N.N.S. HIGH’RS (M.G.) separated by two maple leaves;

Symbolism

The saltire is taken from the shield of Nova Scotia, and the thistle from its crest. “N.N.S. HIGH’RS (M.G.)” is an abbreviation of “North Nova Scotia Highlanders (Machine Gun)”. The badge was created in 1936 with the amalgamation of The Cumberland Regiment, The Colchester and Hants Regiment, and C Company of the 6th Machine Gun Battalion, which became The North Nova Scotia Highlanders.

Symbolism

A Scot Gaelic phrase meaning “Our footsteps will not allow us to go backwards”, or more simply “No retreating footsteps”.
