Peter John Brockbank, Maple Ridge, British Columbia
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
In 1992, Peter Brockbank was involved in an industrial accident that left his legs paralyzed. Having become familiar with the needs of persons with disabilities, he has since devoted his time to making life a little easier for them. He repairs wheelchairs, builds ramps for easy home access, and obtains walkers, wheelchairs, motor scooters and computers for those in need. When supplies and materials are required, he solicits the local businesses and clubs to provide the materials without charge. Mr. Brockbank's work is an example of how one person's effort can make a difference in a community.
