    Mildred (Bowness) Kelley, Peterborough, Ontario Governor General's Caring Canadian Award Mildred Kelley has volunteered in her community in many areas -- from tutoring students in mathematics, to working tirelessly on church committees and projects, to reading for the blind. She cared for her ailing mother and her husband, who had Alzheimer Disease, for many years and became involved in the Alzheimer Society at the local and provincial levels. She was instrumental in the creation of the first "Getaway" program in Canada for Alzheimer patients and their caregivers, and of a "Walk About" program to provide exercise for residents at three local nursing homes.
