    Patricia James, Parksville, B.C. Governor General's Caring Canadian Award Coming to Canada as a war bride, Patricia James immediately began volunteering. She established a Time Out for Tots and Moms program and gave unselfishly of her time to a home for battered women and to support services for women who were sexually abused. She volunteered with a 24-hour crisis line, was a major force in the organization of the local Meals on Wheels program, and was in charge of the distribution of Christmas food baskets to people in need. In addition, Mrs. James volunteers at an extended care hospital and is always one of the first to arrive at the door of any neighbour suffering from grief or adversity.
