    Margaret Giovannini, St. John's, Newfoundland Governor General's Caring Canadian Award Emigrating from England and arriving in Newfoundland in 1939 as an outport nurse, Margaret Giovannini often went above and beyond the call of duty in responding to the needs of people under her care. She continued this dedication as a volunteer in her church and with organizations such as the Red Cross, the Girl Guides, the St. John Ambulance Society and the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Since 1989, she has actively supported the activities of the Seniors Resource Centre, assisted seniors in need, and entertained others as a member of a local group called the Mews Singers.
