In addition to his parish work, Father MacDonald has devoted much of his time to helping people with substance-abuse problems. He was instrumental in the establishment of a local hospital detoxification unit and brings people in need to the unit, day or night. He also helps raise funds for local halfway houses, holds weekend retreats, and offers his counsel to those in need.
