Jean-Baptiste Renaud, Aylmer, Que.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Jean-Baptiste Renaud has helped thousands of needy families in his community of Aylmer for more than fifty-five years, holding numerous positions in his parish and municipality for many years. He has also been involved in the Saint-Médard conference of the Saint-Vincent de Paul Society since 1947. With the help of volunteers whom he recruits, he takes care of the parish's clothing depot, sorts clothes and prepares packages for families in need. He helps prepare Christmas baskets and distributes them to disadvantaged people. Mr. Renaud was also instrumental in the opening of another thrift store, which provided clothing and furniture and also gave training to unemployed persons.
