Helen Flora MacIsaac, Souris, P.E.I.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Helen MacIsaac has generously cared for members of her community, as well as family members for many years. She has long been active in the Catholic Women's League and her church, as a lector, religion teacher and lay minister who brings the Eucharist to people who are sick and unable to attend mass. She organized the first door-to-door canvass in the Souris area for the Canadian Cancer Society, was a founding member of Literacy Canada in the area, and participates in many fundraising events. In addition, Miss MacIsaac looked after her aging father and her ailing brother and sister until their deaths, and in recent years has been caring for a disabled friend in her own home.
