    Sister Thérèse Marie Kergoat, Vancouver, B.C. Governor General's Caring Canadian Award Sister Thérèse Kergoat took a two-year leave of absence from her nursing career to volunteer with adults who are mentally handicapped at one of Jean Vanier's L'Arche homes in France. Since her official retirement in 1986, she has been an active volunteer at the L'Arche home in Burnaby, B.C., and in the Priority Care Unit at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Vancouver. She has also been working to raise funds and obtain medical supplies to build a school and hospital in a small village in Bolivia, which she visits for two months each year to deliver supplies and act as a consultant.
