George Archibald has dedicated his life to protecting cranes. Concerned that many species of cranes were endangered, he co-founded the International Crane Foundation and guided the development of innovative programs to protect cranes in the wild. He is particularly known for dancing with a captive female crane that preferred the company of humans, to induce her to lay eggs. Over the course of 40 years, he has helped facilitate the conservation of millions of hectares of wetlands worldwide, contributing to the survival of many rare bird species.
