He has shown a lifelong commitment to the social welfare of his fellow citizens through his contributions as a businessman, philanthropist and municipal politician. During two terms as the Mayor of St. Anthony, Newfoundland, he led the drive to develop the town's infrastructure, resulting in major improvements to the water and sanitation services, and paved roads. Known for his generosity, he was the sole source of financial support for minor hockey in the community and he has made significant contributions, both financial and material, to the Lions Club and the church.
