A former school teacher and principal, she has the distinction of being the first woman in Prince Edward Island to hold the positions of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Lieutenant Governor. Her advocacy of social programs that support the family as the cornerstone of society, is reflected in her exemplary record of community and public service.
