He has spent a lifetime serving others. Called one of Canada's most distinguished academic physicians, he established the Department of the History of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. His numerous and diverse contributions include roles as an alderman and parks commissioner in Vancouver, Chairman of the Universities Council of British Columbia, Chancellor of the University of Victoria and Chairman of its Centre for the Study of Aging. He is also known as a superb yet modest fundraiser and as a man whose wisdom and dedication benefit countless causes which are close to his heart.
