His pioneering work in computer animation helped pave the way for today's blockbuster films. During his 45-year career at the National Research Council, he developed the key-frame animation technique, which is today considered a classic in the animated film industry. He has received several honours for this breakthrough achievement, including an Academy Award. In addition, his work in robotics and image processing led to technology used in the development of the Canadarm.
