She has helped pave the way for women in journalism. In the late 1940s, she became the first female legislative reporter at the Winnipeg Free Press. Later, she moved into senior editorial positions at several newspapers, including Deputy Managing Editor at The Globe and Mail. A popular educator, she was instrumental in launching the University of Western Ontario's Graduate School of Journalism. Always generous with her time and knowledge, she continues to be a mentor to many women in the field.
