He is considered one of the fathers of Medicare in Saskatchewan. In 1962, he proclaimed his belief in universal health care and, although criticized by many of his peers, he worked to build the province's first community health care clinic where every citizen could obtain proper medical services without a fee. His continues to be an advocate for an affordable and effective health care system in Canada.
