As an honorary chief of the Sechelt Nations, and an active member and councillor of the Squamish Nation, he has been a role model and an inspiration to the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities. His leadership qualities, personal warmth and balanced views tinged with a delightful sense of humour have sensitized Canadians to Native issues and have earned him the respect of government officials and citizens. He helps create mutual trust between Native and non-Native people and is a renowned international ambassador for Canada and its Aboriginal population.
