She is a trail-blazer who surmounted many obstacles to graduate as a nurse at a time when it was rare for native people to pursue professional careers. Her life has been dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles for Canada's indigenous people. A founder of the Indian and Inuit Nurses Association of Canada and President of the Canadian Society of Circumpolar Health, she is a role model and inspiration, especially to young native women.
