He has gained an international reputation as a world-class naval architect, marine engineer and business leader. As head of Davie Shipbuilding and a number of related firms, he was responsible for much of the industry's success during the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway, a critical time in the development of the Canadian merchant fleet.
