Former Chief Scientist with the Fisheries Research Board of Canada in Nanaimo, B.C., and widely acknowledged as one of Canada's foremost fisheries scientists, he has made major contributions in the field of scientific fisheries management, fish population dynamics and salmon biology. He is also a prominent limnologist, entomologist and mathematician, as well as the former Editor of "The Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences" which he elevated to the status of one of the most respected journals in this field.
