    For his scholarship in the humanities and for his commitment to the advancement of indigenous issues. Edward Chamberlin’s passion for the songs and stories of Indigenous peoples has brought him international renown as a champion of language and culture. University professor emeritus of English and comparative literature at the University of Toronto, he has worked to give credence to oral history in the settlement of land claims in Canada and around the world. Committed to protecting the identity of cultural groups, he was also instrumental in the establishment of new areas of study, including the university’s Aboriginal Studies program and courses in Caribbean literature.
