From May 3 to June 3, 1996, during Operation STANDARD at the National Palace of Haiti, Master Corporal Lavallée demonstrated exceptional professionalism in carrying out his duties. As section commander of the counter-ambush group during President Préval's visits, his performance on several occasions clearly outshone that of his peers. He also demonstrated great courage and strong initiative, with the help of his section, by preventing a crowd of some 1,000 people from attempting to enter the Palace. Through his conduct, he greatly contributed to the President's safety and to the credibility of the contingent, of the Canadian Forces and of Canada.
