Elder John Elliott and Elder Elmer Seniemten George translated the Douglas Treaties of the mid-1850s into the Lekwungen and SENCOTEN First Nation languages. Their translation sheds light on the lack of understanding that existed between Colonialists and First Nations when the treaties were first signed. It also provides a foundation for reconciliation and lasting relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians of today.
