Meritorious Service Medal (civil division)
Réjean Gardner, a nurse and ambulance technician, demonstrated exemplary dedication when, between 1995 and 1998, he used his expertise to help the Haitian Red Cross restructure and modernize Port-au-Prince's ambulance service. Over this same period, he initiated a program for managing medical and surgical emergencies in order to increase the efficiency of the emergency nursing services provided at the state hospital in Haiti. Continuing his work in international cooperation, Mr. Gardner founded World Ambulance Attendants in 1999, a consulting, training and pre-hospital intervention organization.
