In the summer of 1989, when the Tiananmen Square crisis erupted, Mr. de Fourestier was employed as the Coordinator General for the "McGill Summer Study in China" program. In the midst of chaos, he demonstrated exceptional leadership and sound judgement. He ensured the timely evacuation of the twenty-seven Canadian students in his care and willingly remained, despite the imminent danger, to attend to the safe departure of eighteen German and Turkish nationals.
