Constable Robert H. Labelle, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
On February 17, 2011, Ontario Provincial Police Constable Robert Labelle rescued an injured man following a collision involving four tractor-trailers, on Highway 17, in Renfrew, Ontario. The victim, who had been ejected from his vehicle but was still strapped to his seat, was dangerously close to a damaged trailer containing hazardous chemicals. Arriving at the scene, off-duty Constable Labelle quickly took control of the situation. Despite the possibility of an explosion, he removed the victim just moments before another truck lost control on the icy road and slid into the ditch beside them. Constable Labelle managed to bring the victim to his own vehicle and continued to assist at the scene until emergency services arrived.
