On December 3, 2006, Bonnoir Hadjadj evacuated mobility impaired residents from a burning rooming house, in Portneuf, Quebec. Alerted to a fire on the second floor, Mr. Hadjadj ran upstairs and attempted in vain to rescue a resident, but found that the man had jammed the door shut from the inside. Since the heat was becoming more intense and the smoke was getting thicker, Mr. Hadjadj alerted the other residents before returning to the main floor to ensure all remaining occupants had made it outside to safety. Shortly afterwards, intense flames caused the second floor to collapse.
