On June 13, 1994, Cst. Atlookan attempted to disarm an unstable individual who was on a shooting spree at Lansdowne House, Ontario. The constable tried to convince the man to put down his shotgun and surrender, but he continued to shoot, threatening to kill the officer. Cst. Atlookan, nonetheless, approached. When he was almost within reach, he was shot in the arm and fell to the ground, bleeding profusely. While a passer-by distracted the gunman, he managed to drag himself to cover. The assailant was eventually disarmed and someone came to Cst. Atlookan's aid.
