On January 3, 1993, Mrs. Schoenfeld lost her life while attempting to rescue her husband after a bus accident near Cancun, Mexico. They were among the tourists on the vehicle, which skidded on the wet road and crashed into a power pole. Mrs. Schoenfeld was able to lead her six-year-old daughter out of the bus, onto a grassy area. She instructed her to wait there while she went back to get her husband. Tragically, both Mrs. Schoenfeld and her husband were killed when the bus exploded.
