On July 14, 1993, in the stairwell of a Scarborough, Ontario, apartment building, Mr. Dunbar saved a man who was being stabbed. A security officer for the building, he heard the man screaming for help and quickly went to his rescue. He grabbed a piece of wood and hit the armed assailant, forcing him to stop his vicious attack and retreat. Pulling the victim out of the stairwell, he began first aid, until the deranged assailant returned. Mr. Dunbar chased him back into the stairwell. The attacker was apprehended a few moments later and the victim, suffering from life-threatening injuries, was rushed to the hospital.
