On July 6, 1991, in St-Cyrille de Wendover, Quebec, Mr. Hélie came to the rescue of his brother-in- law, the victim of an explosion in a garage repair pit. The force of the blast threw Mr. Hélie against the wall. He crawled toward the victim and, despite the flames, leaned into the pit to pull him from the inferno. Moments later a second explosion hurled the two men some five metres from the garage. Mr. Hélie once again returned to his brother-in-law and, with his own body, extinguished the flames that engulfed the victim. Mr. Hélie himself suffered burns to the arms, face and head.
