Daryl Henderson, under hazardous circumstances, went to the aid of a young girl who fell from the side of a cliff, into the Athabasca River near Jasper, Alberta on August 25, 1973. The victim was tossed into the mainstream of the river but succeeded in making her way to a large rock where she stood to the best of her ability against the current.Mr. Henderson saw the girl in distress and proceeded at once down the embankment. The rescuer waded into the treacherous waters to his waist and then swam to the victim whose strength, by then, was almost expended. Together, they held firm against the rush of water until assisted ashore by other witnesses to the mishap.
