Frank Preis rescued a man from a burning half-ton truck near Sicamous, British Columbia on 12 July 1975. The accident had occurred when the man's brother fell asleep at the wheel and the truck crossed the highway into the path of a transport driven by Mr. Preis. Mr. Preis veered to the shoulder of the road, stopping on the edge of a cliff. The truck glanced off the transport and caught fire. Mr. Preis sprayed the fire with an extinguisher, then pulled one man through the rear window seconds before the truck exploded claiming the lives of the other two passengers.
