On June 19, 1992, near Gogama, Ontario, Mr. Boivin pulled his two fellow travellers from a burning truck after it was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Escaping through the broken rear window, Mr. Boivin tried unsuccessfully to extinguish the flames at the back of the propane- powered truck, which was loaded with fishing and hunting supplies, including ammunition and fuel tanks. Fearing an explosion, he attempted to pry open the doors of the truck with a crowbar to free the other two victims, but the doors were jammed tight. Despite his own injuries, Mr. Boivin was able to pull the wounded men out through the passenger window, one at a time, dragging them a safe distance away just as the truck exploded.
